Northbrook personal banker discusses ways to make banking easier

NORTHBROOK — Michelle Swieton, personal banker for the last two years at the Northbrook Chase branch at 1901 Cherry Lane, was raised on the northwest side of Chicago (Portage Park). This University of Illinois at Chicago graduate (bachelor’s) enjoys coin collecting, fishing, the outdoors, singing and dancing. Here’s a pop quiz too? What television show was Swieton on? Q. Tell us about your family.
A. I have an older sister (Anna) who lives in Surprise, Arizona with her husband (Mike) and older brother (Chris) who lives in Algonquin with his wife (Marta) and my niece (Tiffany) and nephew (Zack).
Q. How do you help Northbrook neighbors?
A. I help them in several ways starting with the basics of banking into helping guide people, from all ages, in the next step of their financial goals. I help build and grow businesses and financial relationships in unification with my partners at Chase. I help solve the more unpleasant experiences one can go through like having fees, experiencing fraud, or even handling the death of a family member or friend. These occurrences happen to everyone, I’ve even had fraud on my accounts in the past! I want to help them along the ways finding solutions and owning the issues from start to finish. The positive attitudes and smiles reflect Northbrook as a welcoming community. This is a town where everyone knows your name and has a sense of cohesiveness among each other.
Q. Any exciting banking technological trends?
A. I remember when I was younger going to the bank so my mom can deposit a check that she had to sign in front of the teller. Now you can just take a picture of the check to deposit it! After that you can text message Chase to check your balance!
Q. What about those Apps?
A. I always encourage my customers to bring in their laptops or have their cell phones on them so we can test run the apps together. I always want to guide them through it so they can have a better understanding and remember what to click and where, like how to pay your bills electronically.
Q. Are you a summer or winter person?
A. Summer! I love lying in the sun, swimming, and walking around the Botanic Garden. I love flowers!
Q. What’s on your iPod?
A. I listen to all types of music and appreciate music myself because I am a musician, I’ve played the piano since I was 10. In my iPod you would find everything from Alice in Chains, the Beatles (I love oldies from the 60’s and 70’s), and even Rihanna.
Q. A shout out to Northbrook resident (financial advisor) John Orticelli.
A. John Orticelli is a great mentor. He has helped me along the ways in getting situated in the Northbrook pace of life. He is amazing at what he does and is always busy with clients. I admire him.
Q. What’s your hope for 2013?
A. My resolution for the New Year is to live by the saying “carpe diem.” I want to enjoy every day and not worry about the future. Every day is precious and I’m fortunate to have good health and family and friends that care about me.
