PNC Bank will close its Oak Forest branch in April and move customer accounts to a Tinley Park location.
A spokesman for PNC, Fred Solomon, said the branch, 4920 W. 159th St., will close April 20. The branch is in Oak Forest’s Gateway development at the northwest corner of 159th Street and Cicero Avenue, adjacent to the Metra station.
Solomon said customer accounts would be transferred to the Tinley Park location, 7151 W. 159th St.
He said the decision by PNC to close the Oak Forest branch came after examining the “cumulative effect of a number factors,” which he declined to disclose. He said the bank determined it could more efficiently serve local customers through the Tinley Park branch and a location in Orland Park, at 15411 S. LaGrange Road.
Customers of the Oak Forest branch already have been notified of the planned closing, Solomon said.
National City Bank had planned to open a branch in Oak Forest’s Gateway development, then, in fall 2008, just before the branch opening, PNC and National City announced a merger. Drugstore chain CVS also has a store in the development.
Oak Forest has received more than $2 million in grants to build a new Metra station at that location.
