The Chicago Botanic Garden
The following events will take place at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe. For more information call (847) 835-5440 or visit www.chicagobotanic.org.
Registration for the 2012: summer day camp programs has begun. In addition to the Chicago Botanic Garden’s weeklong summer day camp, Camp CBG now offers full-day camps from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for two weeks for children ages 6-9. Among the camps offered are My First Camp 2 & 3; Green Sprouts; Green Thumbs; Explorer; Adventurers; Leaders in Training; Yoga Bash; and Discover Dance.
Camp CBG provides: exciting and enriching learning experiences for children ages 2-12. The Garden offers weeklong camps with morning, afternoon, and all-day options from June 18 to Aug. 17. Online registration is open through June.
Families visiting the Garden: can borrow Discovery Backpacks from the Information Desk in the Visitor Center. They are available year-round and will be loaned out on a first-come, first-served basis.
North Shore Iris and Daylily Society: Iris Show and Sale will take place from noon-4:30 p.m. May 26 and from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 27.
Small Flowering Trees: will be discussed from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 29-July 10; and from 9-11 a.m. Thursdays, May 31-July 5 or June 2-July 7. The fee is $229 for members and $287 for nonmembers.
Butterflies & Blooms: an outdoor butterfly garden where visitors can immerse themselves with live tropical butterflies will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, June 2-Sept. 3, weather permitting. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Members receive $1 off each price. Combination tickets are available for Butterflies and Blooms and the Model Railroad Garden and cost $8 for adults and $5 for children. Members receive $1 off each ticket price.
The Lenhardt Library: will present an exhibition of “Rare Seeds, Creative harvest: Artists Books Inspired by the Rare Book Collection” through Aug. 12. The library hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; from noon-4 p.m. Saturday and by appointment on Sunday.
The Garden will celebrate: World Environment Day for the fifth year from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 2. The theme is “Unite for a Sustainable Chicago”.
The following classes will be offered: Beginning Tai Chi will take place from 8-9 a.m. Wednesdays, June 6-Aug. 22; Intermediate Tai Chi will take place from 8-9 a.m. Thursdays, June 7-Aug. 23; Intermediate II Tai Chi will take place form 9 15-10:15 a.m. Thursdays, June 7-Aug. 23; and Advanced Tai Chi will take place from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Wednesdays, June 6-Aug. 22. The cost for each session is $115 for members and $165 for nonmembers. Visitors may try a class once for $10.
Fitness walks: are offered from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. through Nov. 17. The cost for four sessions is $38 for members and $46 for nonmembers; eight sessions is $76 for members and $92 for nonmembers; 12 sessions is $114 for members and $138 for nonmembers; 16 sessions for $152 for members and $184 for nonmembers; and a season pass is $285 for members and $345 for nonmembers. Individual rates are $10.
Growing Fruit Trees and Berries: will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 29-June 26 and from 9 a.m.-noon June 2, 9 and 23. The cost is $224 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Photographing Summer Scenes: will take place from 9 a.m.-noon Fridays, June 1-22. The cost is $166 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Green Economy and Chicago’s Weather: will be discussed from 10:30-noon June 2. The cost is $12 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Aromatherapy for Summer Care: will take place from 1-3 p.m. June 4. The cost is $49 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Perennial Garden Care and Maintenance: will take place from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 5. The cost is $62 for nonmembers and members receive 20 percent discount.
Watercolor 1: will take place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays June 6-17. The cost is $287 nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Vegetable and Herb Basket Workshop: will take place from 1-3 p.m. June 7. The fee is $79 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Plein Air drawing and Painting: In the Greenhouse and Gardens will take place form 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 7-July 26. The fee is $374 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Divide and Conquer Your Perennials: will take place from 10 a.m.-noon June 9. The fee is $62 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
