It was easy to fall in love with this season’s neutrals, punched up with blue, black and shades of red.

And everything was matched to understated perfection at Neiman Marcus Runway Report Fall 2012, hosted by Ken Downing, Neiman Marcus fashion director, on Oct. 24 at Northbrook Court.

“Thank you my love,” said the gracious Downing to models, who walked the runway in the gorgeous jewel tones.

A capacity gallery of 125 guests enjoyed catered treats as they listened to Downing, a fashion celebrity on reality shows, who offered spot-on play-by-play with just the right fall color commentary.

With premiere seats runway-side, Jim and Carol Tichy of Northbrook enjoy attending Neiman Marcus shows.

“This is Kiton Napoli,” said Jim Tichy, of the designer jacket he and his wife agreed was the color pumpkin.

“Most rational people would have bought a car, but I bought a coat — and that’s a quote,” laughed Jim Tichy.

Downing would understand, putting on his Mick Jagger moves, gavotting along the catwalk.

“Borrow from the boys,” Downing advised, as models strode confidently in spiked patent pumps and Jackie O celebrity shades.

Warren Beatty’s scarf in apricot?

“The cool thing about a leather legging is that you want to do it with a heel,” noted Downing.

Feathers, did you say?

You betcha. Love that jacket.

And don’t forget to pile on the jewelry. Downing gives you permission this season. Polish those heirloom brooches, costume or real gold, and make sure those rocks shine.

After the show, Downing chatted politely about his immdiate future. “I’m on my way to Courtney Cox’s (“Friends” sitcom celebrity),” said Downing. After that cocktail party, it would be on to “a dinner with Victoria Beckham.”

When you’re the Neiman Marcus fashion director, you’re a jet setter too.
