The National Women’s Division and Chicago Women’s Division of Israel Bonds sponsored the Midwest Regional Conference June 6-7 in Chicago.
The opening night program was held at the Bryn Mawy Country Club in Lincolnwood,
The evening was highlighted by the installation of Helene Herbstman as National Women’s Division chair. Helene is a former Board of Education member in Deerfield-Highland Park School District and has been Chicago Women’s Division Chair for Israel Bonds for the past five years.
Outgoing chair Sherri Willner was also recognized.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Judith Miller gave the keynote address.
The event, attended by nearly 350 people, resulted in over $4.6 million in Israel bond purchases which will be used to strengthen Israel’s infrastructure, economy, and technology.
The second day of the conference was held at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe and featured a luncheon program with guest speaker Sally Oren, wife of Israel’s ambassador to the United States. A panel discussion, ‘A Front Row Seat: Business, Success and Living Jewish,’ was moderated by award-winning author Alix Strauss. Panelists were wife of Israel’s Ambassador to the United Sates, Michael Oren, Sally Oren; filmmaker and grandaughter of WWII Partisan, Tuvia Bielski, Sharon Rennert; CEO of AHAVA North America Elana Drell-Szyfer and Managing Director, JP Morgan Chicago. The afternoon also featured a tour of the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Co-chairman for the event were Judy Yablong of Wilmette, Rita Nathan and Charlene Sales, both of Northbrook and Adrienne Kreizelman of Winnetka.
