Did you know 859 families belong to the Glenbrook North High School Booster Club?

Now that’s school spirit.

“Our support here at GBN is number one in our conference,” said Joan Tedeschi, who serves as GBN Booster Club president with her husband Vince. The Tedeschis have two sons, T.J., 18, a senior, and Matt, 16, a sophomore.

“We have more members, we have more volunteers than any school, even the bigger schools in our conference.,” said Tedeschi. “They just can’t compete with our numbers.”

Speaking of numbers, the GBN Booster Club has committed to raising $50,000 each year over five years, to help fund new artificial football field turf. This means $250,000 will be sourced from volunteer driven philanthropy. That’s a lot of green stuff.

“It (the improved field) will be great for the kids,” said Vince Tesdeschi, who looks forward to summer when the turf is installed.

Green — and gold — are the de rigeur apparel colors for students, parents and all Spartan supporters. Lauri Kaplan, Booster Club secretary, couldn’t say enough about the wardrobe items. Her favorite is the kind of green shirt is worn by fans of all ages. “My 4-year-old nephew (Jack from Chicago) has one, my 75-year-old father has one, my husband, my son…” Kaplan ticks off the family supporters.

“Who looks best in it?” wonders Kaplan. “I’m, well, I’m kind of partial to my 4-year-old nephew.”

All manner of Spartan gear was available downstairs, outside the GBN gym at the Jan. 11 varsity Friday night basketball game. And of course Booster Club parents were behind the table, promoting the school the T-shirts, letter jackets, gloves, scarves and hats, encouraging one and all to celebrate school spirit.
