Romance is in the air as Valentine’s Day approaches. Along with it is a huge cloud of anxiety.
What’s the perfect gift for that someone special? Where to go that’s just the right kind of romantic? But the biggie, for women, as always, is ‘What to wear?’
Red comes to mind first when one thinks of Valentine’s Day. Children wear red to school that day. Daring souls even go red to work. The color is a great option.
Megan Medica from Alixandra Collections in Lake Forest encourages people not to fear color. “Bring red and pink into your accessories,” she says. “A little red goes a long way. And don’t be afraid to mix and match fuchsia, red and pink. Have fun with color blocking! Bright reds (can) form flattering silhouettes, and great accessories make an outfit perfect for a night out or a night in.”
Try an all red dress, experiment. The day almost demands it.
Valentine’s Day is a great day to flaunt your fun and flirty side.
Carrie Kane and Sharon Watrous, owners of Chalk Boutique in Evanston, suggest saturated colors for a flirty, attention-grabbing look. Or pair intense colors like blue-violet and Bordeaux to create a vivid eyeful.
They also recommend balancing feminine and masculine elements in your look. “A girl can have it all with a dress with a full skirt worn with moto-inspired footwear and earrings.”
And then there is leather, done classic and sophisticated, and accented with color, of course. “We love leather pants as an alternative cocktail option,” say the Chalk Boutique owners. An edgy ensemble speaks of a women’s personal take on style and is more than appropriate for anything the evening might bring,” states the Chalk Boutique owners.
There are many stylish options to wear this Valentine’s Day. It’s a day to be yourself, whether that’s flirty, colorful, feminine, edgy, or sophisticated. You can’t go wrong if you choose an outfit that’s comfortable — and makes you feel fabulous.
As Kane and Watrous observe, “An edgy ensemble speaks of a women’s personal take on style and is more than appropriate for anything the evening might bring.”
Valentine’s Day or any day.
