Police Blotter for Jan. 19

TThe following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Northbrook Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.

DUI

Mark Shapiro, 29, of 200 6th St., Wheeling, was charged Jan. 14 with driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts each of violating the median and improper lane use. He was released on a $1,000 signature bond with a Feb. 27 court date. Police said he was charged after officers stopped him at Bordeaux and Micheline.

Emmanuel Garduno, 33, of 410 Inland Dr., #3B, Wheeling, was charged Jan. 15 with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too slowly and driving without a valid license. He was released on $3,000 bond with a March 12 court date. He was charged after an officer acting on a driving complaint stopped him at Dundee and Skokie.

THEFT

Copper cable valued at more than $300 was taken between Jan. 6 and 9 from a Commonwealth Edison storage yard on the 1400 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said a chain link fence was cut and concrete covers weighing several hundred pounds were removed to access the cable.

Zofia Kwiatkowski, 58, of 6419 Irving Park Road, Chicago, and Patricia Kwiatkowski, 25, of the same address, were charged Jan. 11 with retail theft. They are to appear in court Jan. 23. Police said they took several items from Home Goods in Willow Festival, but left the tailgate on their vehicle open. Police said officers stopped them at Patriot and Willow and found items in the vehicle with price tags still attached.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Two picnic benches in the skating area of Techny Prairie Skate Park,, 1750 Techny, were defaced sometime before Jan. 9 with a marker.

A building on the 1600 block of Illinois was spray painted sometime between Jan. 10 and 13.
