‘Bunnicula’ on stage
Feb. 25 is the last chance to catch the musical comedy “Bunnicula” on stage at the Northbrook Theatre. Performances are at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The family-friendly production features a three-foot puppet and is based on the popular children’s book series about a mysterious bunny. The audience can meet the professional cast after the show. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 online or at the door. Cosmic skating
Cosmic Skating offers cool fun with music, special effects and theatrical lighting from 8 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Northbrook Sports Center. Non-skaters can celebrate in the Club Cosmic room. Hockey
championships
The top Chicago-area high school hockey teams will compete on Feb. 16 at the Northbrook Sports Center. The first game begins at 10 a.m. and the last begins at 7 p.m. The Chicago METRO High School Championships feature two girls’ games and four boys’ games. Admission is free for children under 12, $2 for seniors, $2-3 for students and $5 for adults. Call (847) 291-2993.
Hall of Fame
nominations
The Northbrook Park District is accepting nominations for its Hall of Fame and Sports Hall of Fame until Feb. 28. The Hall of Fame recognizes volunteers who significantly improved the quality of a Park District program or facility. The Sports Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments of athletes who are from Northbrook or who have used Northbrook Park District facilities as their primary training location. Nomination forms are available at nbparks.org, the Leisure Center and Northbrook Sports Center.
Golf discount cards
Resident discount cards for golf are offered at a reduced rate through Feb. 29 at Sportsman’s Country Club. Residents with discount cards pay lower rates on green fees. Visit the golf shop to renew a resident card for the 2012 golf season or purchase a new one. New applicants need to bring a driver’s license and utility bill. The early fee for the card is $25, and the regular fee is $50 beginning on March 1. For more information, call the golf shop at (847) 291-2351, ext. 3.
Free Wellness
Workshop
A free Wellness Workshop will show adults how to protect themselves and their families from heart disease — the #1 killer in the U.S., from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 29 at the Leisure Center and will share five key steps to building a naturally healthy heart. Northbrook Choral Festival
Everyone is invited to experience a grand and memorable concert with world-renowned composer and conductor Dr. John Leavitt at 7:30 p.m. March 10 at Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette. The Northbrook Community Choir, a program of the Northbrook Park District, is hosting the concert. Four other local choirs also will participate. Grants from the Northbrook Arts Commission and Illinois Arts Council provide partial funding for the event. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the performance; they can be purchased by phone at (847) 291-2367 or at the Northbrook Theatre Box Office at 3323 Walters Ave.

Summer camp
discounts
Registration continues for 2012 Summer Camps and Workshops, and most programs offer a discount for early registration and payment in full by Feb. 28. Cross-country ski lessons
Sportsman’s Country Club offers cross-country ski lessons from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays in February, weather permitting. Instruction covers the basic moves, speed and technique; equipment rental is available. For information, visit nbparks.org or call (847) 291-2351, ext. 3.
Ice show tickets
Tickets for the 2012 Northbrook-On-Ice are available beginning on March 5. The highly regarded show offers four performances during Mothers’ Day weekend, May 11-13, and combines sophisticated skating, dazzling costumes, popular music and professional lighting and set design. School’s out fun trip
On March 5, students can enjoy a trip to the Adler Planetarium for a fascinating glimpse into planets and the universe. Kinder Campus Open House
Kinder Campus Information Sessions are scheduled for March 7 at Hickory Point School and March 8 at Willowbrook School. The Park District partners with School Districts 27 and 30 to offer multi-faceted enrichment for kindergarten students. ‘Fame’ performances
Performances of Fame — The Musical will rock the Northbrook Theatre on March 11, 17 and 18, presented by the award-wining Northbrook Theatre Children’s Company. Show times are 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Fame is an inspiring story about a diverse group of students sharing four years of difficult artistic and academic work. With honesty and humor, the actors (students in grades 6-10) explore issues such as prejudice, self-worth and sexuality. The production is recommended for ages 10 and older. Bingo and lunch
On March 7, adults can enjoy a gourmet lunch, tour Whitehall of Deerfield, and play bingo for a chance to win prizes. The fee is $5 for Senior Center members and $9 for non-members. Register in advance; everyone will meet at Whitehall.
Lunch and a movie
Adults can enjoy “The Help” on the big screen at noon on March 8 at the Leisure Center. The award-winning movie is a touching tale of race relations, based on a best-selling novel about black maids in Jackson, Ms., who share their stories with a journalist.
Stroke discussion
Adults can attend a free presentation about strokes and treatment options at 1 p.m. on March 8 at the Leisure Center. Refreshments will be served. Register by March 6. The program is sponsored by Abington of Glenview.
Park Larks perform
The Park Larks will perform at 2 p.m. on March 8 at Three Crowns Place in Evanston and at 2 p.m. on March 14 at Gidwitz Place in Deerfield. The Northbrook Park District choir rehearses on Thursday mornings at the Leisure Center under the direction of former concert pianist Evelyn Binz. The choir is looking for new members; there is no charge for Senior Center members to join, and all voice parts are welcome.
Jim Kendros
presents: Bach and Vivaldi together
Musical historian Jim Kendros shares one of the greatest musical relationships in history at 1 p.m. March 9 at the Leisure Center. Enjoy a wonderful musical treat — a Vivaldi concert written for four violins and arranged by Bach for four harpsichords, so that he could perform it with his sons. The fee for the program is $5 for Senior Center members and $9 for non-members.
Spring Break
Escapes
Spring Break Escapes offer field trips and supervised fun for children ages 5-12 during the school vacation, from March 26-30. March 12 is the last day to sign up to enjoy eSkape, the Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago Children’s Museum/IMAX, Rec Plex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and a Kids’ Day In at the Leisure Center. Spring Break Multi-Sport Camp
A new sports camp welcomes ages 5-12 to Greenbriar Gym during the Spring Break from March 26-30. Children can sign up for a few days or all five sessions to participate in basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, volleyball and other sports-related activities. Open Art Studio
Looking for a place to be creative? Art studio time is free to Northbrook residents from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights at the Leisure Center. Adults can paint in the company of others; the Park District provides tables, stools and easels. The fee for nonresidents is $5 per day.
