Pool opening
Weather permitting, opening day for the Northbrook Sports Center Pool is May 26. Preseason hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and Memorial Day and 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The regular season begins on June 9, when Meadowhill Aquatic Center opens. Pool passes are on sale at the Leisure Center and Northbrook Sports Center. Safety Town open
Buckle up for Safety Town, a nine-day program that begins on May 29 at the Leisure Center. Children ride bicycles in a miniature town and learn about pool safety, fire safety, stranger danger and the use of 9-1-1. The program offers a choice of morning or afternoon sessions for ages 4-6 and ends with a graduation ceremony. For details, visit nbparks.org or call (847) 291-2995.
Free golf lessons
Looking for free, expert golf advice? The Northbrook Park District offers free 10-minute golf lessons during May at Sportsman’s Country Club. Beginners can get introduced to golf, and avid golfers can fine-tune problem areas. For details, call (847) 291-2351, ext. 3.
Fun 4 All
The Northbrook 4th of July Association and the Park Distinct will host a Fun 4 All skating and swimming event from 6 to 9 p.m. June 1 at the Northbrook Sports Center. The family event offers Cosmic Skating, swimming, DJ entertainment, raffles, free pizza and drinks. All proceeds will go toward funding the July 4th activities, including the pancake breakfast, parade and fireworks. The fee is $10 per person in advance or $15 at the door.
Park Fest Concerts
The sound of music will fill Village Green Park in Northbrook this summer with the return of Park Fest, the popular outdoor concert series that starts on June 5. Free concerts begin at 7 p.m., and food service from area restaurants begins at 6 p.m. The Northbrook Park District presents the following performers on Tuesday nights: AC-Rock, StateLine, R-Gang, New Odyssey, Rhythm Rockets, Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band, and Spoken Four. Rock the Green
On June 8, all ages can enjoy a musical talent showcase and competition from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rock the Green at Village Green Park. Batting Cages
The batting cages at Techny Prairie Park and Fields are open daily, weather permitting. Summer hours of operation, beginning on June 4, are as follows: Monday-Friday: Noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday: Noon to 8 p.m.
Players can select baseballs or softballs with a choice of speeds, and helmets are provided at no charge. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.
Play with the Pro
Golfers can play the Classic 18 Course at Sportsman’s Country Club with a pro on select Wednesdays this summer, beginning on June 6. Golfers pay applicable green fees (and cart fees), book a tee time for up to three players, and Sportsman’s will pair them with a pro. To book a tee time, call (847) 291-2351, ext. 1.
Summer Camp
The first session of camp begins on June 18, and registration continues while space is available. The Park District offers 10 weeks of high-quality camps with preschool through teen programs, half-day and weekly choices, extended care and specialty programs. Mini-Golf League Begins
A mini-golf league begins at Sportsman’s Country Club from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on June 9 for ages 5-12. Children can enjoy the challenges and camaraderie of mini-golf with a variety of supervised games and a season-ending party. Sign up with friends, or be placed in a group. The fee for four weeks is $25 for Northbrook Park District residents and $29 for non-residents. For more information, call (847) 291-2351.
Teen Pool Party
Teens can make a splash at a pool party just for them from 8 to 10 p.m. June 15 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center. The event includes swimming, pizza, music and games. The fee is $9 for Northbrook Park District residents and $15 for non-residents. Register online at nbparks.org or at any Registration Office.
Learn to
Speedskate
Skaters age 7 and older can enjoy fast fun on Fridays with a speedskating class at the Northbrook Sports Center, beginning from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on June 15. The five-week session focuses on developing proper technique through games, drills and races provided by the Northbrook Speedskating Club. Girls’ Golf Socials
Girls’ golf socials begin from 10 a.m. to noon on June 16 at Anetsberger Golf Course. Girls learn the rules, etiquette, pace of play and basic shots of the game in a social environment. Sportsman’s Golf staff and members of the Glenbrook North High School Girls’ Golf Team provide assistance. The fee of $15 includes green fees and a snack. Field Hockey Clinic
Field hockey will be played at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and on the turf in Northbrook. The Park District is offered youth field hockey classes with Olympian Katie Beach, former captain of the U.S. Field Hockey Team. The program starts with a free clinic at 11:30 a.m. on June 16 at Techny Prairie Park and Fields. Sticks will be provided; children need to bring shin guards, mouth guards and water. Wine & 9
Couples’ golf returns to Sportsman’s Country Club this summer, beginning on June 16 with the first Wine & 9 event. Couples can enjoy nine holes of golf, followed by dinner and a wine tasting. The golf begins at 4 p.m. To sign up or get more information, call the Golf Shop at (847) 291-2351, ext. 1.
Super Soak
Sundays
Join the Park District from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on June 17 and 24 for wet fun and games at the Northbrook Sports Center Pool. Present a pool pass or purchase twilight admission. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.
Evaluation Night for Women’s Hockey
A women’s hockey league begins on June 18 for a summer of friendly competition, and an evaluation night is scheduled from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 11 at the Northbrook Sports Center.
Games are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Women register with the Park District as individuals, attend the evaluation, and are placed on a team for a 12-game season.

Appreciation Night
The Northbrook Park District is hosting a Customer Appreciation Night from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 22 at the Northbrook Sports Center Pool with games, raffles, giveaways and DJ entertainment. The first 100 customers will win hot dogs. Customers can present a pool pass or purchase twilight admission to enter.
