A 50-year-old Northbrook driver has been cited with two traffic violations after allegedly striking a 7-year-old pedestrian Thursday in south Evanston.
Around 4:10 p.m. May 24, Evanston police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by an auto at the intersection of Oakton Street and Barton Avenue, according to a news release issued Friday by the Evanston Police Department.
The investigating officer learned from multiple witnesses that a 7-year-old girl was reportedly in the crosswalk, crossing the street with her brother, when she was struck by a vehicle alledgedly traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Oakton Street, the release said.
Evanston fire paramedics also responded to the scene, treated the child for bruises, scrapes and a possible broken collar bone, and transported her to nearby St. Francis Hospital. The brother was not hurt.
Citations for negligent driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian were issued to the driver, Yuriy Velikov, of the 3600 block of Salem Walk in Northbrook, the release said.
