Police Blotter for June 5

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Northbrook Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.
BATTERY
Raji Saleh, 19, of 784 Greenwood, Northbrook, was charged May 26 with domestic battery after police said he got into a fight with his brother over a pack of cigarettes on the 700 block of Greenwood Road. Saleh was held without bond. A May 31 court date was set.
An argument that took place about 9 p.m. May 20 at the Techny Towers Conference & Retreat Center on the 2000 block of Waukegan Road ended with a bartender allegedly stabbing a victim, but no charges were filed. The bartender denied cutting the victim and the victim refused to sign complaints.
BURGLARY
Police responding to burglar alarm rushed on May 24 to a home on the 4200 block of Terri Lyn to find the rear door open, but no signs of a break-in. However, when the homeowners returned they discovered several pieces of jewelry missing from a jewelry box.
Daniel David Kovalevsky, 18, of 2548 Brian Drive, Northbrook, was charged about 2:30 a.m. May 21 with three counts of felony burglary to a motor vehicle after police said one of his victims saw him inside her vehicle, which was parked in her driveway on the 2300 block of Castilian Circle. Kovalevsky fled on foot, but was caught by officers, who also discovered he had broken into other vehicles. A June 11 court date was set.
A burglar between 6 a.m. May 19 and and 10 a.m. May 21 stole about 18 bags of chips and assorted items from a vending machine in the Techny Prairie Park club house on the 1700 block of Techny Road. The value of the chips was about $36.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 300 block of Pfingsten Road discovered about 6 p.m. May 22 that someone used an unknown tool to scratch her vehicle from the passenger side’s front door to the passenger side tail light.
DRUGS
Scott J. Bachrach, 24, OF 800 Woodbine, Northbrook, was cited about 11 a.m. May 22 with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after police said he was acting suspiciously and trying to hide something in his hand while driving on the 100 block Skokie. A June 11 court date was set.
DUI
Pedro Salinas, 36, of 8 Walker Ave., Highwood, was arrested May 26 and charged with felony driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use, driving without a license and without insurance after police stopped him near Shermer and Willow Roads because of erratic driving. He was taken to Glenbrook Hospital for a blood sample, then to the police station, where he has been held without bond. A June 11 court date was set.
Sara R. Stickels, 18, of 1716 14th Ave., Belvidere, was charged about 9:30 a.m. May 25 with driving under the influence of drugs and driving an unsafe vehicle, as well as being cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police said she was driving with two flat tires and front end damage on the 4200 block of Rutgers. She was taken to Glenbrook Hospital, then to the police station, where she was processed and released on $1,000 bond. A June 12 court date was set.
Robert John Giannini, 21, of 2112 Franklin, Glenview, was charged about 4 a.m. May 27 with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, driving without a valid insurance and failure to use a seatbelt, after police said they stopped him near Landwehr Road and Violet Lane. Giannini was taken to the Glenbrook Hospital emergency room for tratment, then to the police department where he was processed and released on $1,000 bond and his drivers license. A June 12 court date was set.
ID THEFT
A woman who lives on the 500 block of Greenwood reported May 25 tht someone used her social security number to file a tax return. Also since then, someone has been using all her credit cards.
THEFT
A woman discovered May 26 that someone took four checks from her checkbook, which were used to withdraw about $2,000 from her checking account.
A member of the YMCA on the 2700 block of Techny reported May 25 that someone took his wallet and credit card holder from his unlocked locker. They contained his drivers license, credit cards and cash, as well as a resident alien card.
Employees at the Luis Vuitton shop on the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported about 5:30 p.m. May 24 that someone stole a purse valued at $2,800.
SOLICITING
Joseph P. Bias, 25, of 1632 Lexington, Mansfield, Ohio, was cited May 21 for selling magazine subscriptions near Pfingsten & Cherry without a permit after police said they confiscated all the sales receipts and checks he had, and returned them to the victims. A June 25 court date was set.
