Kids’ Duathlon

The Northbrook Park District and Northbrook Bicycle Club will host the third annual Kids’ Duathlon from 6 to 8 p.m. July 20 at Meadowhill Park and the Ed Rudolph Velodrome. The event welcomes ages 5-14 and includes biking and running. Boys and girls will be grouped by age and will receive a participation medal, free pizza, drinks and admission to the pool afterwards. Park Fest Concert July 24

The final Park Fest concert of the season brings the band Spoken Four to the Village Green July 24 for a high-energy show with crowd favorites. The free concert begins at 7 p.m., and food service from RoccoVino’s begins at 6 p.m. In case of inclement weather, call the Northbrook Park District hotline at (847) 291-2985 for updates. No dogs or alcohol are allowed in the park.

Radio Disney
Safety Splash

The Northbrook Park District is joining with Radio Disney to host a pool party from 1 to 3 p.m. July 28 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center, with a spotlight on safety. The Radio Disney Safety Splash, powered by SwimmingPool.com, will feature DJ music, prizes and games geared towards pool safety. The first 100 people will receive free food, while supplies last. The event is free with a pool pass or daily admission.

Evening pool fun

The Northbrook Park District presents wet fun and games at the pools on summer evenings in July. Wonderfully Wet Wednesdays are planned from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 25 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center. The Northbrook Sports Center Pool will host Super Soak Sundays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on July 22 and 29. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.

Laughter Yoga

Omm… ha! On July 24, adults can enjoy an afternoon of laughter yoga, which concentrates on breathing and laughing while sitting, standing, moving and experiencing joy. The program runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Rosewood Care Center, 4101 Lake Cook Road. The fee is $3, and refreshments will be served. Mix and Mingle social events

Members of area senior centers will join for Fun and Games Trivia Night from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25 at Gabe’s Backstage Lounge in Highwood. The event includes an appetizer buffet, unlimited soda, ice breakers and a trivia contest. The fee is $20 for Northbrook Park District Senior Center members and $30 for non-members. A cash bar is available. Visiting Angels is the sponsor. Call (847) 291-2988 to register.

Park Board meeting

The Park Board of Commissioners will hold a monthly meeting at 7 p.m. July 25 in the Community Room of the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. The public is welcome to attend. Ice Cream Social

An Ice Cream Social July 26 combines ice cream, toppings and a taste of Jamaican music at the Northbrook Sports Center, beginning at 1 p.m. The talented Jamaican One Man Band presents a variety of music, including reggae, calypso, Latin & limbo. The fee is $6 for Northbrook Park District Senior Center members and $10 for non-members. Call (847) 291-2988 to register. The event is sponsored by The Abington of Glenview.

Magic class

Children can learn fascinating tricks from the Magic Team of Gary Kantor from 5 to 5:55 p.m. July 26 at the Leisure Center. The program welcomes ages 5-12, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. For more information, visit nbparks.org or call (847) 291-2995.

Senior Centers
Variety Show

Admission is free for spectators at the Northbrook and Glenview Park District Senior Centers’ Variety Show at 1 p.m. July 27 at the Glenview Senior Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave. Refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by The Seasons Brookdale Senior Living.

National Night Out

The Northbrook Park District and Northbrook Police offer fun for all ages at National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 7 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center. The free event includes DJ entertainment, hot dogs and drinks, games and raffles, the use of the pool and crime prevention tips. Jeffrey’s Climbing Tower will be open for demonstrations. In case of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.

Wine & 9

Sportsman’s Country Club offers Couples’ Golf Aug. 11 with a Wine & 9 event. Couples can enjoy nine holes of golf, followed by appetizers and a wine tasting. The golf begins at 4 p.m.; the fee is $79 per couple. Call the Golf Shop at (847) 291-2351, ext. 1 to sign up.

Awesome August

Awesome August Camp invites children ages 5-12 to wrap up the summer with an extra week of activities, beginning on Aug. 13. Campers can enjoy a variety of thrilling experiences, such as water parks, museums and entertainment centers. The camp day is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended care available before and afterwards. Adventure Campus: Parent Night

Adventure Campus will hold a Parent Information Night at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Leisure Center. The Park District partners with School Districts 27, 30 and 31 to offer organized activities before and after classes. Play with the pro

Golfers can play the Classic 18 Course at Sportsman’s Country Club with a pro Aug. 15. Golfers pay applicable green fees (and cart fees), book a tee time for up to three players, and Sportsman’s will pair them with a pro. For details, call (847) 291-2351, ext. 3.

Summer skating recital

The Summer Skating Recital welcomes visitors to the Northbrook Sports Center from 5:15 to 8:45 p.m. Aug. 17. Figure skaters at all levels are invited to perform their competitive programs. Admission is free for spectators, and refreshments will be served.
