Recyling day to be held at Northbrook Farmers Market
Updated: July 20, 2012 5:28PM
The Northbrook Farmers Market is set to present next week its second annual Art of Recycling Day in the Our Lady of the Brook church parking lot, 3700 Dundee Road.
Several organization are set to be at the event, which is sponsored by Veolia Environmental Services, Northbrook’s waste hauler.
The midway will be lined with the booths of “recycle artists” who offer unique and one-of-a-kind, up-cycled and re-purposed treasures, said Dale Duda, the market’s volunteer manager.
“In just one year, this event has grown significantly, second only to opening day,” Duda added.
“It just goes to show that people are really doing their part to do the right things when it comes to the environment,” she said.
Fifty percent of the construction of all sale items must be made of material that would have gone into a landfill if not given new life.
Also, in keeping with the recycling theme of the day, Northbrook’s Good Will Industries will place a drop box for residents to donate clothing and shoes.
Residents may drop off old paint, electronics, batteries and other household items in the Northfield Township Road District’s collection vehicles. Paper can also be brought to be shredded. More details are available online at http://northfieldtownship.com/recycling-program.html.
Veolia also will offer tours of their natural gas-powered recycling truck, and hand out information and tips on recycling to help reduce the village’s waste.
Shoppers are invited to join the YMCA-sponsored Sunrise Yoga on the Lawn at 7:15 a.m. and the Arthritis Foundation’s Mid-Morning Tai Chi at 10 a.m., also on the lawn.
All events are free of charge.
The market is open rain or shine 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 10 in the Our Lady of the Brook church parking lot, 3700 Dundee Road. Visit www.olbparish.org for more details.
