Variety show entertains at Glenview Senior Center

Dancers, singers, musicians, magicians and a story teller shared the stage July 27 during the Northbrook/Glenview Senior Centers’ Variety Show.
An audience of about 120 cheered the 36 seniors as they presented their talents at the Glenview Senior Center, said Jill Becker, program coordinator.
Love to Dance, the Glenview tap class, showed off its rendition of Steve Holy’s “Brand New Girlfriend.” Soloist Paula Drues performed Ray Henderson’s “Birth of the Blues.” Jim Geppert demonstrated tricks as “Jim the Magician.”
The Nifty Ladies, a chorus, performed “My Favorite Things,” Berry Chessick presented stories surrounding “Maxwell Street Memories,” and Gerald Ascherman played his own composition, “What’s It like Up in Heaven.”
The Ukulele Ladies sang Hawaiian songs, and the Northbrook Senior Tap Class presented “Singing in the Rain.”
But it was Helen Lee and Joyce Lee, two ladies in their 80s who have been performing together for 10 years, who took first place playing Korean drums.
They won the $175 grand prize presented by The Seasons at Glenview Place.
Northbrook Senior Center Director Frank Lamberti co-planned the event with director Megann Panek.
