GLENVIEW — Heide Kogan, of Northbrook, makes the daily commute down the road to her workplace in Glenview, at Plaza del Prado where she has become a fixture at Cy Fredrics jewelers.

Gold and fine diamonds just part of the business. Kogan handles products like any business tools, not blinking if the cuff bracelet is a $500 “Glam Film” bronze number by Rebecca, or an 18k white gold diamond bangle at a cool $72,000.

“You’re seeing a lot of long pendants,” said Kogan, who has one son, Ian, 22, a University of Illinois at Champaign student pursuing a master’s degree in certified public accountancy.

Ian would appreciate adding up the diamonds in the Kendall Nicole by Cy Fredrics – a $20,000 corded pendant featuring nearly eight carats of diamonds in 18k white gold.

Heide Kogan’s history here includes time well spent with colleague Dustin Lemick. of Chicago, who was once a youngster running around the family business.

“I’ve been here over 25 years. I do a lot of the fashion end of the business, and do a lot of the buying,” said Kogan, proudly. “I can say that for over 25 years, I love coming to work everyday, it’s a happy business.”

For more than a half century, Cy Fredrics has sold jewelry to generations of familes.

“My birthstone is amethyst,” said Lemickm, a trained gemologist. “There are lots of different avenues of gemstones that jewelers are exploring now, but diamond, I believe, is still king.”

“There are certain properties to diamonds that you just can’t find in any other stone,” he said. “The brilliance of a diamond, there’s nothing like it in the world.”

“Fall is all about the jewel tones,” said Kogan, who calls herself a “pearl girl.”

Yes, Kogan, who wears an angel wing pendant perpetually around her neck, has the pearl as her birthstone.

“We have a long rich history,” said Lemick, of the store formerly located in Skokie. “What’s exciting for me is I get to work with third generation customers.”

Cy Fredrics will join other designers at the Pioneer Press Fall Trend Fashion Event 2012 (10.11.12) being showcased at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Northbrook Pinstripes at Willow Festival Shopping Center (1150 Willow Road).

Teddie Kossof Salon Spa in Northfield has joined Fall Trend Fashion Event 2012, which also includes Neiman Marcus Northbrook, Enaz of Northfield/Highland Park, Vibrato of Glenview’s The Glen and CB Lake Forest.

York Furrier, Inc. of Elmhurst will offer the latest in furs and fur accessories, such as custom-colored scarves.
