Attorney has passion for youth services

Pam Buchholz was raised on east side of Northbrook before the future attorney moved with her family to the west side. A Glenbrook North High School graduate, Buchholz and her husband Jim, also an attorney, have raised their two daughters, Izzy, a Beloit College sophomore, and Natalie, a GBN junior, near the middle of town. An active volunteer, Buchholz cites Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook as her passion. They have two Shih Tzus, 11, Winston and Juno.
Q. Talk about your passion: Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook.
A. “I used Youth Services when I was 16 and struggling with the challenges of being 16. I joined the Board of Directors almost 20 years ago now to help ensure that agency would continue to be there for kids and families facing the toughest of challenges and for kids, who like me, were falling through the life’s cracks. I have seen firsthand the monumental difference Youth Services has made in the lives of our community’s children and families over the years as it has grown to the premiere social service agency serving children and families.”
Q. A favorite program that Youth Services provides?
A. “Though Youth Services provides more than 33 amazing programs in our community, I think with the holidays fast approaching, I would like to highlight the Holiday Gift Program.
“Last year alone, more than 500 families totaling over 2,200 individuals in Glenview, Northbrook and Northfield Township were served by Holiday Gift Program. Recipients are either current clients with a financial need or are referred to the program by local school social workers, the faith-based community, the local park district scholarship programs, the police departments, and of course, the Northfield Township offices.

It is important to note that all funds and gifts donated to Holiday Gift are used exclusively for this program and are not used to support any of Youth Services’ other vital programs or budgetary needs. Q. How important is volunteerism to you?
A. “Volunteering is a way of giving back and trying to make a difference in the lives of those around me and the community in which I live. Whether it is through Youth Services, the Northbrook Woman’s Club & Foundation, the Friends of Youth Services, different school committees, I have always felt that I have received so much more from the volunteer experience than I have given. I think that is why I continue to volunteer.”
Q. How can people support their community?
A. Become involved to whatever extent you can whether it is for an hour at your child’s school or by joining one of the many social service clubs or non-profits in our area. Youth Services, for example, always has a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from.”
Q. Your hobbies?
A. “I love to entertain in my home, to cook, to sing, to go to the theater, to travel and, of course, to volunteer.”
Q. Any “Save the Date” important reminders?
A. “Youth Services is hosting a fall event, “Stand-up for Youth-A Night of Comedy” on Friday, November 16 at 7 p.m., featuring comedian Henry Cho with opening act, the GBN Comedy Troupe. The evening includes a cocktail reception, food, raffle and a live auction at The Lakeview Room at the Park Center in Glenview.
