Rock the Green

Rock the Green, Battle of the Northbrook Youth Bands, will return to Village Green Park from 6 to 9 p.m. June 10. This is the second year for the free musical showcase and competition. Audience members can help choose the winners and have a chance to win raffle prizes, including tickets to Lollapalooza, a guitar, and dinners from Chipotle. The winner will perform at a Park Fest concert and advance to a regional competition.

Park Fest June 14

The Park Fest concert on Tuesday features Billy Croft & The 5-Alarm, a smokin’ country rock band with music from country legends. The free concert starts at about 7:30 p.m. at Village Green Park, after the Northbrook Rotary Rubber Duck Race. Food service begins at 6 p.m. For weather updates, call (847) 291-2985. Pool Schedule

Meadowhill Aquatic Center opens on Saturday, and summer hours begin at the Northbrook Sports Center Pool. Both pools are open until 9 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Season passes provide unlimited admission to the pools and are available online and at Registration Offices. Liberty Loop

The Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk returns to Techny Prairie Park and Fields at 7:30 a.m. on July 4, followed by a new Liberty Lap Fun Run for ages 4-10. Proceeds from both races will benefit the Northbrook 4th of July Association. June 23 is the deadline for a reduced entry fee for the certified 5K race. Adult Athletic Leagues

Countdown to Camp

Summer camp fun is about to begin at the Northbrook Park District, and registration continues while space is available. The Summer Warm-Up pre-camp begins on Monday, and most four-week camps begin June 20. Parent Orientation is June 13 at the Leisure Center. Open Climbing Tower

Jeffrey’s Climbing Tower is open for an exciting adventure on Saturday in Meadowhill Park. Usually limited to groups, the 30-foot tower is available for individuals, age 10 years or older, from 9 to 11 a.m. Register online at nbparks.org or at any customer service location. New Tennis
Programs

The new FIT Tennis program combines tennis and fitness in a one-hour evening workout, beginning on Monday. Adults receive instruction on strokes, footwork and aerobic movement, while rotating to fitness stations that focus on balance, agility and core strength. The classes are choreographed to music. Safety
Program

An AARP driving program on Monday and Tuesday can guide adults toward safer driving habits. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northbrook Park District Senior Center. Drivers who complete the course may qualify for a discount on car insurance. Call (847) 291-2988 to register, or stop by the Senior Center.

Teen Pool Party

A Teen Pool Party on June 17 offers swimming, pizza, music and games from 8 to 10 p.m. at Meadowhill Aquatic Center. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.

Speed and
Agility
Camps

New Speed and Agility Camps begin June 20 at Techny Prairie Park and Fields with Performance Specialist Jack Cascio and his Twice the Speed Training System. Rules of the Road

A free Rules of the Road class June 22 can help prepare adults to renew their driver’s licenses. The Secretary of State’s Office presents the class at the Leisure Center at 10am. Register by June 17 at the Senior Center or call (847) 291-2988.

Movie
Night

The free Northbrook Movie Night June 25 offers music, games, inflatables and a showing of Yogi Bear at Village Green Park. Activities start at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins at 8:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to the Fourth of July Association to help defray the cost of fireworks.

Girls Field
Hockey

A new field hockey program for girls begins with a free clinic at 10 a.m. on July 9 at Techny Prairie Park and Fields. Windy City Field Hockey teaches basic skills and tactics in a one-week program from 4 to 6 p.m. July 18 through 22. Players need a stick, mouth guard, shin guards and sneakers/cleats.
