Glenbrook North jazz bands star in spring concerts

Jazz concert at GBN
The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab at Glenbrook North will be presenting their spring concert. Enjoy the beautiful music of the bands, along with Jazz composer and trumpeter, Doug Beach, who will be performing with each band. When: 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday. Northbrook on Ice
Get ready for an amazing show! The 43rd Northbrook on Ice show, called “5-6-7-SK8,” will showcase the talent of three teams of synchronized skaters, one of which won a gold medal! Skaters will perform with speed and precision, but with the elegance of dance added to the program. When: shows are at 7 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. Mother’s Day brunches

Community choir concert

YMCA fundraising dinner
Want to have a great time and help an important cause at the same time? If so, attend the YMCA “Strong Kids Dinner.” The evening will include live music and entertainment, live and silent auctions, games, surprises and a delicious dinner. Proceeds will benefit the Strong Kids fund, an organization that gives financial assistance to families in need so that they may participate in YMCA programs and services. When: 5:30-9 p.m. May 16. Historical fiction novel book signing
Authors Sam and Peter Stamatis, father and son from Glenview, will talk about their novel, “Dandelions for Dinner,” a family memoir set in Greece in the 1940’s during the Greek Civil War and World War II. The story is told through the eyes of a 13 year old boy and is a tale of family, poverty and war, but also includes survival, hope and coming to America. A book signing will follow their discussion.
