Pool party

Sports Center pool is throwing a customer appreciation party that’s fun for the whole family! Everyone is invited to enjoy games, raffles, giveaways, and a live DJ. The first 100 people there will get a free hot dog! When: 6-9 p.m. Friday. Where: 1730 Pfingston Road. Cost: use pool pass or pay at the door, $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and kids under 17. Bicycle racing

If you’re interested in trying bike racing, the Northbrook Bicycle Club sponsors this sport every Friday night with stock bikes. It’s for all ages and abilities, and encourages bike racing as a healthy, fun and friendly competitive sport. No experience is necessary. When: 6-8 p.m. for ages 3-18, 7:45-9:45 p.m. for ages 18 and up, every Friday. Where: Ed Rudolph Velodrome, Meadowhill Park, 1479 Maple Ave. Cost: $7-15. More info: www.northbrookbicycleclub.org.

Go to the beach!

The Northbrook Park District and The Glencoe Park District have a new partnership that gives Northbrook residents Glencoe resident rates for passes and guest passes to Glencoe Beach! And right next to Glencoe Beach is the Perlman Boating beach that offers sailing for all ages. Where: Glencoe Beach, 74 Park Ave. Cost for beach tokens: $95 for an individual pass, $105 for family of two, $10 for each additional family member, $50 for seniors. Wedding and social dance

Want to learn how to look great on the dance floor at weddings and other social events? Sign up for “Wedding and Social Dance,” a class that will teach you how to dance to Rock, Top 40, Latin or Big Band. You’ll also learn how to Waltz, Cha Cha and Swing! So, grab your dance partner (couples are recommended for this class) and get ready to have some fun! Ages 16 and up. When: 7:30-9 p.m. Fridays (starts Friday) through July 20. Knitting and crochet class

Grab your needles, some yarn, and a sack lunch and head over to St. Giles Episcopal Church to spend the afternoon learning how to knit and crochet. Beautiful hidden gardens

You can’t miss a walk through five beautiful hidden gardens in Northbrook! Join professional gardener, Kathy Lorden as she guides you on the tour of the gardens and answers questions about your own garden. When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Yoga for athletes

Are you a runner? If so, yoga can help you! This free yoga class focuses on athletes’ recovery and core strength, specifically for runners. Gardening discussion

Learn about gardening and get great tips from an expert! Join Barbara Kreski, Horticultural Therapy Supervisor from Chicago Botanic Garden for her discussion, “You Planted, It Grew, Now What?” Kreski will talk about watering and maintenance, use of the right gardening tools, creating a mid-summer arrangement and more! Also, Neel Patel, clinical director of TRU Rehabilitation and Wellness will be there to show you some exercises to alleviate pain from gardening chores.
