Academic Excellence Awards

District 31 schools have been recognized with 2011 Academic Excellence Awards by the Illinois State Board of Education. Both Winkelman and Field Schools are on the 2011 Illinois Honor Roll. In a letter to both schools on Jan. 30, Christopher Koch, State superintendent of education, said, “The Illinois State Board of Education commends you and your faculty on all the good work required to sustain academic excellence in your school.”

Winkelman and Field Schools are among 438 schools across the state that earned the Academic Excellence Award for 2011. To earn an Academic Excellence Award, a school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011 as required by the No Child Left Behind law and 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

Superintendent’s Forums planned

West Northfield School District 31 parents and community residents are invited to learn the facts about Referendum 2012 at several upcoming Superintendent’s Forums with Dr. Alexandra Nicholson.

If the referendum is approved, District 31 will receive an additional $1.55 million in revenue each year to maintain current educational programs for students and avoid having to make further cuts beyond the budget reductions already made. Superintendent’s Forums are scheduled on: Feb. 22, at 12:30 p.m. in the Winkelman School Learning Center, 1919 Landwehr Road, Glenview; Feb. 28, at 9 a.m. in the Field School Auditorium, 3131 Techny Road, Northbrook; and Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Field School Auditorium, 3131 Techny Road, Northbrook.
