Board of Education meeting
The District 27 Board of Education will meet in a regular board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Wood Oaks Commons, 1250 Sanders Road.
5K race and fun run
The District 27 PTA will sponsor a 5K race and fun run on Oct. 13 to raise money for the district’s scholarship program. The “District 27 PTA Cares for Kids 5K & Fun Run” will be held around Wood Oaks Junior High School, 1250 Sanders Road, and throughout Wood Oaks Green Park.
The race will include the 5K, a timed 1.6K fun run, and a 50-yard children’s dash for ages 5 to 8. The 5K is a USATF certified timed race. Awards will be given in the 5K by age category for the top male and female runners, as well as overall finishers. Awards will be given in the 1.6K race for the top overall male and female in adult and child (14 and under) categories.
Proceeds will benefit the District 27 Rohrabaugh Scholarship Fund and the District 27 PTA program. The scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding seniors at Glenbrook North High School who attended Wood Oaks Junior High School.

Pumpkin sale
A pumpkin sale to benefit Collin Wehr, a Wood Oaks sixth grader who is battling cancer, will be held on Oct. 13 and 14 at three locations in Northbrook. The pumpkins will be available for donations of $4 for small pumpkins, $10 for large pumpkins and $1 for gourds.
The pumpkins are available in the cul-de-sacs on Heather Court, Elder Court and Peachtree Lane from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 13, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 14 (if any pumpkins are left.)
Collin is battling a brain tumor and money is being raised to help him and his family with medical bills.

The District 27 PTA has a website that includes links to a variety of environmental resources, including paper shredding and other services.

Halloween parade
The Halloween parade at Hickory Point School is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 31 for the entire school, and 12:45 p.m. for afternoon kindergarteners. At Shabonee, the parade kicks off at 11:10 a.m., followed by a sing-a-long in the gymnasium.
Upcoming musical performance
Second grade students at Hickory Point School are practicing for the upcoming musical performance on Nov. 7. The students will perform “I Need a Vacation” at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Hickory Point School.~.
