Update on fundraising efforts

Students on the Northbrook Junior High School Executive Board will present an update on the school’s fundraising efforts for the American Diabetes Association during the Feb. 26 School Board meeting. The students will share information about the school’s dodgeball tournament, the “NBJH Unplugged” coffeehouse event, Spirit Week contests, and other events that are raising money for the American Diabetes Association, which NBJH students elected earlier in the year as the school’s Charity of Choice. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and is held at the District’s Administrative Offices, 1475 Maple Ave.

8th Grade Art Show at Georgie V.’s

Approximately 70 Northbrook Junior High School students will be exhibiting their drawings and paintings during the NBJH 8th Grade Art Show at Georgie V.’s from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at the restaurant, 1139 Church St. in Northbrook. The show will feature 100 pieces by students in the school’s drawing and painting classes; each student who participated in one of the classes has at least one piece included in the exhibit. The artwork also is expected to be available to view through March at Georgie V’s.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the 8th grade artists at Northbrook Junior High to showcase their art to the community and take pride in their work,” art teacher Mark Hay said. “I am very proud of the students’ effort and grateful to Georgie V. and the Novy Family Foundation for partnering with us to make this happen.”

Refreshments will be provided by Georgie V’s. This exhibit is sponsored by the Novy Family Foundation.

Family Bingo Night

Meadowbrook families are invited to “It’s a Luau!” Family Bingo Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 in the large gym at Meadowbrook School, 1600 Walters Ave. There is a fee of $1 per bingo card.

Winter concert season

It’s winter concert season, and there are several concerts coming up in the next two weeks. The Concert Choir and 6th Grade Chorus will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 28. The Faculty Recital — featuring performances by the music directors and other musically-inclined staff members — is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 5. Both performances are free and open to the public, and they will be held at Northbrook Junior High School. Look for more information on additional March concerts in an upcoming edition of the “School News” column.~.
