Winter Band Concert features guest musicians
District 31’s Winter Band Concerts featured several guest musicians who joined the combined Concert Band and Symphonic Band under the direction of Mike Miller, band conductor, to perform the concert finale “Winchester March” by John Edmonson. At the evening concert on Feb. 21, parent musicians participated including Phil Holliman, trombone; Sandra Hill, flute; and David Ruth, trumpet. At the school concert on Feb. 22, Field teachers and staff musicians participated including Nancy Kim, flute; Heather Stodola, flute; Susie Smith, French horn; and Gina Clinton, tuba.
District 31 band competition results
Congratulations to all the District 31 Band participants who performed at the 2013 Northbrook Solo and Ensemble Festival recently at Wood Oaks Junior High. According to Mike Miller, Field’s band teacher, every student musical group and solo in the Symphonic Band, which is Field’s top band, received a first place, Superior rating. In the Festival, student musicians played solos or in a small groups, performing by themselves without a conductor. They were judged by professional musicians from the Chicago area, and are given ratings based on their musicianship.
Ensembles that received a first place, Superior Rating included: Sophie Harvey, Annie Lim and Paulina Popova; Michael Tzeng, Carissa Seo, Julia Jakubiak and Cassie Kim; Justin Kwon, Cameron Fujiwara, Allison Biernacki and Paula DiBenedetto; Steven Hong, Jeniah Griggs, George Thomas and Jason Vazquez; John Park, Daniel Kim and Matthew Ruth; Grant Kim and Michael Lee; Chris Lee, Noah Hill, Jacob Rosenberg and Sarah Chang; Vince Boffa, Sarah Richards, Sara Jedlinski, and Jina Kim; Nico Jung and Amir Ubeid; Lisa Lee, Youjin Shon and Emily Chang.
Ensembles that received a second place, Excellent Rating included: Edwin Baik, Sammy Stamatis, Mariah Mendez and Noah Ben–Isvy; Angelica Kuca, Songhee Back and Isabel Baik; Christina Duan, Kelly Skoulikaris and Alexandra Nickolas; Leyla Silic, Kayla Zuiker, David Kim, Chan Lee and Maja Markovic.
Students who received a first place, Superior Rating for a solo included: Eighth graders Chris Lee and Sophie Harvey; seventh graders Noah Hill, Justin Kwon and Michael Tzeng; sixth graders David Kim, Paulina Popova, Allison Biernacki and Youjin Shon; and fifth grader Sunny Choi.
