Summing up my work

A final report from the former Crestwood Place Representative on the Northbrook Senior Services Commission.

When concerned individuals are appointed to unpaid volunteer positions on various village commissions, they should accept the responsibilities of doing the best work possible. This is exactly what I did and was rewarded with rejection from many of those I tried to help and those who believed their interests were in jeopardy. But, be that as it may, the problems no longer are mine to resolve.Instead I can only enumerate my accomplishments and hope my replacement is equal to the task of completing what is remaining undone.

I accomplished a lot but there was so much more I wished to do because the needs are great. During my tenure in office I was responsible for:

• Installation of a permanent American flag on the grounds at no cost to the building or to the tenants, thanks to the American Legion.

• Sidewalk repairs and other corrections around the building to ensure the continued good health and safety of residents.

• Installation of hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of contagious illness among the aging, frail residents.

• No increase in rent.

• The re-evaluation of a vacant unrented apartment hoping to return it to the rental rolls or have it made available for the use of residents.

I plan to continue to be active with senior issues and will find other vehicles with which to serve my community. I am proud of what I have done and am confident that the positive things I accomplished will be recognized.

My thanks to those who have supported my efforts and my best wishes to the person who will carry on in my place.

Burt J. Ofsaiof, Northbrook
