Despite watching a 14-point second-half lead evaporate early in the fourth quarter, Prospect was not rattled down the stretch against Glenbrook North Tuesday night.

Instead, the Knights regained control and finished on a 15-2 run to close the contest, en route to a 71-55 road victory in Northbrook.

Mike LaTulip led all scorers with 28 points, including 11 in the final quarter for Prospect (11-6). The senior guard knocked down four three-pointers and helped seal the win by hitting all six of his attempts from the charity stripe in the last stanza.

“We really wanted this game, this is kind of a pride thing,” said LaTulip, who intends to walk on at Illinois. “My sophomore year we got run out of the gym here, so to beat them on their home floor and to maintain in that second half was huge.”

Devin O’Hara finished with 15 points, including 13 before the intermission, when the Knights took a 39-26 lead. Senior guard Brad Reibel knocked down all four of his free-throw attempts in the second half and totaled 12 points.

Glenbrook North (13-5) came out and scored 21 points in the third quarter and continued to chip away at Prospect’s lead. Just minutes into the final period, Kurt Karis connected on two free throws and tied the game at 51-51.

Karis hit another basket early in the quarter, but then North did not score again for a stretch of more than three minutes. The junior guard led the Spartans with 21 points.

“It really tightened up on defense,” said LaTulip. “I thought we did a great job at the end, kind of limiting their shots. They could not really get anything off, they had long possessions.”

Adam Chick added 12 points for the Spartans, while Mark Johnson finished with nine.

“We fought back,” said Glenbrook North coach Dave Weber. “We did not have any energy at the start of the game, and then we just ran out of gas. They are a very good team and our defense was non-existent tonight.”
