DES PLAINES — Maddie Quayle’s eyes opened wide when she learned Thursday’s win over Maine West was Glenbrook North’s 10th in a row.
Lauren Emmert had a team-best eight kills as the Spartans improved to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the CSL North with their 25-11, 25-19 victory over the Warriors.
“We are really excited about this season,” said Quayle, a senior right-side hitter in her first season as a starter. “We weren’t sure about how things would go because we don’t have the same height as we did last year. But we are playing with a lot of energy and consistency.
“We definitely feel like we can go far if we keep this up.”
Patricia Hare followed Emmert with six kills, while Kate Kamin led the defense with eight digs. Leah Reinfranck added five kills in the win.
Glenbrook North is off until Sept. 27 when it plays Niles North, the team most likely to contend with the Spartans for the league title. Glenbrook North won the conference last season.
“They are starting to believe they can be a good team,” said Glenbrook North coach Chris Cooper, whose program hasn’t won a regional championship since 2007. “Niles North will be a good showdown and a good test for us. But any of the teams we play can put it together.”
